The Squirrel

I've lived in WV for 3 1/2 years now. Yet I still see things that make me shake my head in wonder.

Today, I saw that a big, beautiful red squirrel had been hit by a car and was lying in the road near my driveway.

Much later this afternoon, I saw a man in a jeep cherokee drive by and look at the squirrel in the other lane. He continued down the road a short distance. Then he stopped his vehicle, put it in reverse and backed up alongside the poor deceased. Much to my shock, although, I'm not sure why I was shocked, he opened his jeep door, picked up the squirrel and placed it on the floor of his vehicle by his feet. He then, shut the door and drove off.

Even Frank was a bit taken aback. I'm thankful the poor squirrel didn't lay there and get squished all over the snowy road. But it leads me to wonder why the man took the squirrel home. What did he see in this piece of roadkill that was so appealing. Was it the red bushy tail? Was it the little squirrel hands stuck frozen in midair??? Was it his rotund little body that appealed to the man??? Is the poor little squirrel a prized specimen bound to be stuffed and mounted for the man's friends to oooh and aaaah over??? More than likely, the poor little squirrel was the man's dinner. I've learned a thing or two about squirrels and gravy and such. But that's a story for another day. Wherever you are little squirrel, rest in peas. I mean peace. Rest in peace, little squirrel. Rest in peace.

My Beloved Blog

I have neglected you so. I have been lured away by the newer, younger, hipper Facebook. But I've learned that facebook is just superficial fluff. It merely skims the surface. While you, dear blog, are my heart and soul. You know my deepest, darkest secrets. As well as my greatest joys. I share them all with you. You know me. You don't rebuke or criticize. You're just there to receive whatever I have to share with you. Waiting with open arms for me to empty myself of sadness and sorrow or happiness and fun. You are here, my Beloved Blog. And now I am here too!

Yard Sale Finds!

It's been a wonderful couple of days for yard sales! One of the local churches was having "bag sale". Anything you can get in a brown paper bag for $2.00! Besides some books, I filled two bags with clothes for me and daughter.

At another yard sale I found the following lady head vases! I've always admired head vases. I had one miniature one but it was broken in the move from Florida. These belonged to a woman who passed away. Her daughter told me she had over 300 of them. There were just a few in the yard sale. I love 'em!

At the same yard sale, I found this vintage metal picnic basket with wooden handles. Cost: A whopping 50 cents!

At yet another yard sale, I found a stash of vintage hankies. Cost: a whopping 10 cents each!

Considering going to the auction tonight since I'm on such a streak of good luck.

DMV

Determined to Move you to Violence. I think that's what it really stands for. Every time we go to the DMV, there's another piece of paper they require. It drives me crazy! We've gone twice to update Amber's license. Yesterday, he wouldn't allow it because I did not have her diploma with me. I had her college acceptance letter. Not good enough. Would the college accept her if she didn't have a diploma??? Duh!!! I had her birth certificate....her social security card...her military ID. And an entire folder of paperwork from the college. But he had to see her diploma. GGGGRrrrrrrr!!!!!! I think it's their goal to see how many people they can keep from conducting business each day. They probably have a tally sheet under the counter and at the end of the day, they see who "won".

I must say that Amber handled it much better than I did. She calmly told the man she'd be back tomorrow with her diploma. I was muttering (not so silently) all the way out the door. She chastised me by saying "Mom, I deal with people like you every day and you just make our job harder. Be nice!" I just wanted to smack her.

Relay for Life!

Thanks to all of you who supported me in raising money for Relay for Life this year. I was honored to get to walk laps with my friend, Carrie, a cancer survivor. She is an amazing woman and it was humbling to be a part of her "survivor walk".

On the way to the middle school.

Games!

Fund raising!

We sold hotdogs, drinks..

and raffle tickets for this beautiful afghan.

There were cancer survivor speakers.

Flags of inspiration!

The first lap led by the color guard for the cancer survivors.
