I'M A CHRISTIAN By Maya Angelou
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."
I'm whispering "I was lost,"
Now I'm found and forgiven.
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
confessing that I stumble
and need CHRIST to be my guide.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and need HIS strength to carry on.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
but, God believes I am worth it.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
who received God's good grace, somehow.

The Mama
A few years ago my friend's mom died. They were very close and it was very sad. My friend said to me "Guess I'm the Mama now." She has no sisters or even daughters, so that left her to be the female who would hold her family together and take care of everyone. And she has! She is raising three teenage boys, with one in college. Has moved her ailing daddy into her home to take care of him, is going to school to get her degree in Elementary Education and on top of all of that, she's a Pastor's Wife! I think she's amazing! I'm very proud of her and I know her Mama would be too.

Handbag Contamination???
Something to think about...I know I won't think about my handbag the same again.
"Have you ever noticed gals who sit their handbags on public toilet floors, then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table. Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes 'what you don't know will hurt you'! Read on ... Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been. It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day. 'I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,' says one woman. 'On the floor of my car, and in toilets.' 'I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts and on the floor of the toilet ,' says another woman 'and of course in my home which should be clean.' We decided to find out if handbags harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared. Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked. Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus MRSA can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and E-Coli (0157) found on the handbags could make people very sick. In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella and that's not the worst of it. 'There is fecal contamination on the handbags' says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception. The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. 'Some type of feces, or possibly vomit' says Amy. So the moral of this story is that your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen counter top. Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair shoes. If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your counter tops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the counter tops'. Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc Do you really want to bring that home with you? The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags."

Mucinex and Tater Tots

Mucinex is what the doctor suggested I take. So, every time I take one of these capsules, I image these little green guys living in my head. Not a pleasant thought.
What started out as a cold (assumes the PA) is now a sinus infection with piercing pains radiating down my cheekbones and in my ears.
So, along with mucinex, I get to take an antibiotic and motrin for the pain. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I HATE to take pills. I won't even take a Tylenol until I absolutely have to. Nevertheless, I popped 4 pills yesterday with very little hestitation. I just want the pain to go away. I had a slight rash on my chest afterwards and I'm not sure if it's a reaction to the amoxicillan (my mom's allergic to penicillan) or if it was from the heated rice bag I was clinging to to ward off the chills. Guess I'll find out shortly when I take my morning dosage.
This 4-day diet of cream of wheat, hot tea, chicken noodle soup and pudding is causing some serious weight loss. But I'd rather have my taste buds back. Tater tots anyone???

An Apron Day!
She spotted a stash of hand-made aprons and pointed them out to me. It didn't take me long to scoop them up at 50 cents each! Wooo Hooo!
The floral/white apron is linen with a flour sack pocket and bottom trim. The one beside it reminds me of my grandma. The white/green apron is unique because the green part is pot holders! How cool is that! And I love the red/white one! It has a little lace-edged pocket on it.
As if those aprons weren't enough, when I got home I had a package from Kaiya in NJ. She had my name for the Spring Sassy Apron Swap and sent the beautiful apron in the pic below. It has an adorable heart-embellished pocket. How cute! She also sent some Yogi Tea teabags and a recipe for Vegetarian Chili! How did she know!!??? Thanks so much, Kaiya! I love it!
What a wonderful apron day!
