Alarm Clocks and Such
I don't like alarm clocks. I don't like the loud screechy ones. I don't like the loud squawky ones. I don't like the soft chirpy ones. I just don't like alarm clocks. Actually, I don't like to be woke up by an alarm clock or anything/anyone else. I much prefer to wake up with the kiss of God on my cheek as the sunlight streams through the blinds and He whispers "Wake Up, Sweetheart! I have a wonderful day planned for you!" That's how I prefer to wake up.
I don't remember, but I imagine, I wasn't an easy child to get up for school. I do remember that I didn't like to get up to go to work for my first job (I was 18 years old). I'm naturally a night person, stay up late and sleep in! A combination that doesn't go well when you're employed.
My alarm clock would go off and I would hit the button to turn it OFF. Not snooze. But off! Shortly after that, my grandma would fling my bedroom door open and tell me in her soft voice that I needed to get up. It wasn't her soft voice that got me. It was when she flung the bedroom door open that scared me to death. So, I started locking the door. That led her to her knocking (persistently) to get me up. She was only looking out for me and didn't want me to be late. I'm sure I scared her to death, knowing I would be pushing the limits of law and nature by trying to squeeze a 15 minute drive to work into 10 minutes or less. It's only by the grace of God I never had an accident on the way to work. How He kept the 4 wheels of my Chevette from flying off these curvy mountain roads is beyond me.
All of this has come to mind lately because my daughter is in that place now. Even though, she's just 16, she has her first job. And she got her driver's license yesterday. And I'm scared to death, she'll try to squeeze a 10 minute drive to work into 5 minutes or less. You see, she hates alarm clocks, is a night person and likes to sleep in late. She prefers to wake up with the kiss of God on her cheek.
So, what's a mom to do? I guess what I have to do is what my grandma must have done for me. PRAY! ALOT! And trust God to do the rest. Even though, Amber and I are very similar in a lot of ways. She's a much different person at this age than I was. She's more responsible, she has more common sense and she has wisdom that belies her age.
And should she have a day when she's running extremely late for work, I'll do what my Grandma couldn't. I'll drive her to work myself! Problem solved!

To my Dear Friend:
I'm praying for you today as you're preparing to take your leave. My heart is heavy for you because I know it won't be easy. It'll probably be the hardest thing you've ever done in your life. To leave your marriage, to leave your home, to leave your children, to leave your past behind and trudge forward into your uncertain future. Be safe, Dear Friend! Know that I love you. May God be your guide and may you have peace knowing your future is in His hands.

Busy, busy week!
One of the things I did this week was participate in the Mountain Quilt Quest Shop Hop. Thirteen quilt shops throughout West Virginia hosted the Shop Hop. You could visit one of the shops or all of the shops. At each shop you recieved a quilt square charm and you could purchase a quilt block kit. Each shop had a different kit. When you put them all together you have a beautiful full-size quilt. I visited 4 of the shops. I haven't decided if I'll make a table runner, a wall-hanging or a bag from my 4 quilt squares.

At one of the shops, I found this adorable charm pack and pattern. I love all the pinks and browns together. It'll be a cute wall-hanging....or maybe a table runner....or maybe a bag......
Another thing I did this week was go to Becky's. She and I went to Roger's Flea Market on Friday. This was one of my finds. I love View Master Reels! This bunch included Mickey Mouse, Barbie and Disney on Parade.
I found this sign for my dad for Father's Day. (SSSSHhhhhhhh! Don't tell him!)
And this Campbell's Kid organizer for my mom. (SSSshhhhh! Don't tell her either!)
I also found this great vintage apron pattern for 10 cents. It's extra special because it's a maternity apron....even harder to find. And how cute!
On the way back from Rogers, Ohio, we stopped at the Homer Laughlin China Factory. It's one of my favorite places in the world! Here's what I brought home this time. A Fiesta Ware yellow egg plate, a HUGE yellow mixing bowl (the picture doesn't do it justice), a red serving bowl and a small white pizza plate.
And if that wasn't enough of a score, the kids and I stopped at a Goodwill store on the way home. I used to shop at this particular store when we lived in PA and I always found great things. This visit was no exception! I found these beautiful Homer Laughlin China dishes for 50 cents and 25 cents each.
Aren't they beautiful?!
THEN, I spyed this adorable little saucepan. You can see on the handle that it says "All Clad". It may be small but it's hefty.
I turned it over and this is what was on the bottom of it! That's right! Original price $120.00 for one little sauce pan.
And here's the Goodwill price:
Yippeee!!!! There were a few more scores....Andrew got a huge box of legos for five bucks and Amber found a Wet Seal brand jacket for a couple dollars. We had so much fun!
Oh and earlier in the week was my mom's birthday and she loves thrifting as much (if not more) than I do. So, we had lunch and did some shopping. On that day I found a gallon size ziploc bag full of vintage packs of rick-rack...original prices were 25 cents each. The entire bag was $1.99!
It's been a very fun week indeed!

Home School Discrimination Rant
During my 11 years of home-schooling, it never once crossed my mind that my child would be discriminated against in the job market because she's home-schooled. The employer actually said to her that she's "concerned about her people skills" because she's home-schooled. Anyone who knows my daughter knows she is NOT lacking in "people skills". If the employer didn't want to hire her because of lack of experience, fine! If she didn't want to hire her because she wasn't qualified, fine! But don't discount my kid because of some pre-conceived notion you have of a socially inept, kept-behind-closed-doors, locked-away-from-the-real-world, tv-tabloid home-school kid!! I can assure you my daughter is one of the most responsible, out-going, mature kids I know. And any employer would be glad they hired her. I have no doubt!
Oh, by the way, we don't know if she got the job or not. She should be hearing something soon. It just irritates me that people are so close-minded and hung up on their prejudices. And, yes, it is a prejudice. So, get out of your cookie cutter world and open your eyes!
