I woke up this morning not having to jump out of bed and go anywhere. I didn't even have to jump out of bed and do anything. Sure, I have a to-do list a mile along...it's perpetual...never ending. But there was nothing pressing. And the power was out. We had a ferocious storm last night that knocked trees down on the power lines. So, as my eyes opened I luxuriated in the feel of my comfy bed. I love my fine cotton sheets and the quilt my grandma made for me. I love our thick comforter and my soft pillows. So nice!
Then I started thinking about the man who sleeps beside me every night. So thankful for him! So thankful for the sun streaming through the mini-blinds. Thankful for the sound of the birds chirping outside my window. Thankful for the hens clucking in the back yard. Thankful for the soft strumming of the guitar coming from the next room. So much to be thankful for. It is indeed a Good Morning!

The Notebook
Nope, not the movie. Although, it's a good one. The notebook I'm referring to is a bright pink notebook selected for the purpose of wedding planning!
I have notebooks for EVERYTHING!!! A recipe notebook! A knitting notebook! A planner notebook! A couple of homeschooling notebooks! A sewing notebook! A house notebook! Even a notebook titled "poisonous snakes of WV"! Yuck!
But this pink notebook is going to be the most special of them all! We've established categories in our notebook....colors/theme, wedding clothes, flowers, cake/food, decorations, photographer, etc. We've begun the ground work for one of the most memorable events in our lives. It all seems so surreal. It's hard to believe my baby is going to be getting married one day soon. Half of the time, it feels like we're playing make-believe. Just like when she was a little girl. And seeing her in wedding dresses...she's just playing dress-up, right??? I have been doing fine with all of it, until the day we found "the veil". It is the most beautiful veil in the whole wide world! And the moment she put it on, we knew it was the one! I cried!
We've watched tons of episodes of "Say yes to the dress". We've seen the mother cry. We've seen the bride swoon over the perfect dress. I thought a lot of that was hype. But I experienced it first-hand when she put that veil on. Something magical happened. For just a second, she wasn't my baby any more. But a beautiful young woman about to become a bride.
If the veil had that much effect on me, what on earth will the perfect dress do??? She's tried on about 15 dresses so far. Some were very pretty. But none of them were "it". We know the perfect dress is out there, we just have to find it. We'll search high and low. In chain stores and little boutiques. In pattern books and vintage catalogs. On ebay and Craigslist. Not to mention the enormous stack of bride magazines she owns. The hunt is half the fun, though, right???
Will keep you posted......

Don't Kiss the Dog
Once upon a time there was a very pretty girl who had an adorably cute dog. This little dog was trained to present her cheek to whoever came to visit for a kiss. How sweet!
Until one day, the very pretty girl contracted mono. Yet, she continued to kiss her little dog. And so did any visitors that came to the house.
Can you guess the rest of the story??? There are now several people who have mono and the sweet little dog is the link.
The moral of the story....don't kiss the dog!

It's the Little Things...
I found these retro-style glasses in an outlet store recently. I LOVE them! They go perfectly with my Fiesta Ware. They match the decor of my kitchen. And they just make me smile. It's the little things, like this, that make your house a home. It makes your home a reflection of who you are. I'm not exactly sure what these glasses say about me. I think they say I'm old-fashioned but with style. And I'm alright with that...cause It's a Good Thing!

Sew Fun to Make!
Change Purse Step 1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Then I added my own flare to the design. I have a stash of vintage rick-rack and wanted to use it in every design. I had the denim fabric, lining fabric, appliques, buttons and zippers on hand. These were a lot of fun to make. I plan to make more in the future. Don't let the idea of putting in a zipper keep you from attempting these. It was easy-peasy!!! The instructions are very clear and easy to follow...lots of pictures too! Let your imagination run wild!

Somebody's Watching You!
No, I don't mean Big Brother. Although, he might be. I'm referring to people. Just regular, ordinary, everyday people. You're one of them. You watch other people and you are being watched. Haven't you noticed that kid in the grocery store screaming his face off and the young mother screaming even louder trying to get him to shut up??? That's one's kind of hard to miss. But you also notice the old woman who digs her underwear out of her crack as she's walking through the parking lot of Walmart. Or the old man picking his nose at a red light because he thinks no one sees. There's even a website called The People At Walmart. It's not pretty. But check it out if you want some amusement. Someone is always watching you.
Someone's always watching our kids too. And you know the way they act is a direct reflection upon us as parents. Fortunately, I've had two compliments recently about my kids. One woman I barely know came up to me after church Sunday and told me what good kids I have. She said she noticed Amber on the worship dance team and she notices Andrew always at the front of the church with his arms raised praising the Lord. I couldn't help but feel proud.
Then later the same day another woman told me that my daughter blessed her heart and she (Amber) didn't even realize it. What did she do? I asked. Amber had dance practice at church earlier that morning. She needed something from the house and Frank made a special trip into town to bring it to her. As he was walking away Amber told her dad how much she appreciated him bringing it to her. The woman was astounded that a teenager would be appreciative of her father's gesture. Such a simple thing.

My Space
No, I'm not talking about the social networking site. I'm talking about the little cubby of a space tucked back into the front of our house facing the road. No one really notices this space because it's so unobtrusive. But I know it's there. And knowing it is there is part of it's charm for me. Because it's MY space. In this little niche is two huge cabinets. One is filled with our holiday decorations. Not just Christmas decorations but Easter, Thanksgiving, birthday, etc. It's full of the fun stuff! The other huge cabinet is full of my fun stuff...craft supplies! I could open my own craft store from what's in that cabinet. I have every department covered. There's tons of fabric because I love fabric! There's a box of sewing patterns. There's a couple containers of vintage buttons. There's three sewing machines. Yes, I said three. Don't judge! There's rubber stamping supplies. Lots of beads and findings to make jewelry. There's boxes with ribbon and trims. And there's all of my scrapbooking supplies. There's also other things like ModPodge, which is a staple in any crafty girls cabinet. Those are just some of the things in Big Cabinet #2.
On the walls are miniature quilts. Most of them I've made. They hold memories of former times and friends from other places. One quilt in particular has extra special memories. A few years ago our family had to evacuate our home in Florida because of hurricanes. We took several of our military friends with us to Georgia. We spent a week there in a hotel. Three of us bought some fabric and made quilt blocks then traded with each other. So that each of us has a block from the other two. When I look at that small quilt I remember Shannon and Brenda and those crazy days in a Georgia hotel and the fun we had sewing.
Also tucked back into My Space are two bookshelves, which hold all the crafting books. Books on quilting and knitting and crochet. Jewelry making and ribbon embroidery. I also have books on homemaking, gardening and interior decorating. And, of course, there are my precious floral design books.
My "good" sewing machine rests atop a small vintage formica table. If you watch Everybody Loves Raymond you can see a similar one in his parents house. Beside the small table is a larger formica table. Also seen in Raymond's parent's house. On top of this table rests my bible collection. Yes, I have a wide variety of bibles. Don't they all say the same thing???? Yes, the message is the same. But it's said in different ways. Some are easier to understand. Just depends on what mood I'm in whether I want to read the standard King James Version or if I want a lighter version like The Message.
In any case, this space-My Space, is very special to me. It embodies who I am. A crafter, a homemaker, a Christian, not necessarily in that order.
I don't get to spend enough time in there. And all too often it gets piled up with junk. But I've noticed when I keep that area clean and neat and spend some time there, the rest of my life feels orderly too. Guess you know where you can find me today. I'll be in My Space.
